I'd like to learn practical skills

House Trained is course that gives young people the skills, confidence and knowledge to manage their own tenancies.

The course explains your rights and duties as a tenant, gives practical help and advice on day to day living and can help to speed up your waiting time on the Manchester Housing Register.

Topics cover the practical aspects of maintaining a tenancy such as budgeting, furnishing a home, using community services and health and safety regulations. Every person that completes the course will gain an accredited certificate through Open Awards and a Community Contribution Award through Manchester City Council Allocation Scheme, which is recognised by Manchester City Council, social housing providers and some private landlords. It will also move your application up a group on the Manchester re-housing list.

The course is relaxed and informal, and you can discuss any problems you may be having with us in complete confidence. When the course is finished, we can offer you additional support if you need it. To qualify, you just need to have a connection to Manchester (we can explain what this is if you're not sure) and, if English isn't your first language, you'll need to have passed ESOL Entry Level 2.

The length of the course varies, Some courses run over 3 all-day sessions, some run 6 half-a-day sessions, and we course that run soley on a Saturday. for more information:

Get in touch to find out more about what the course covers and how it can help.

The course really helped me. It covered all sorts of things I didn’t know about and has given me a lot of confidence. Two months after completing the course I was offered my own flat; I really can’t thank House Trained enough.” Abi, 18
